Pastor Terry told how he grew up in a home with divorced parents and that he got into drugs during his teenage years. He was in a rock band but life was no fun to him and at his lowest he tried to commit suicide, fortunately it didn’t work, which gave him hope that there maybe was a God. His family didn’t go to church but his father had received a small Gideon Bible when he was in the military during WW II. His dad never used the Bible, but he kept it with him all those years.
One night Terry opened it up and read ½ a chapter in Luke and realized his sinfulness. These verses made him realize his problems were not anyone else’s fault. He confessed his sins and the more he confessed the more God reveled sin in his life. Terry said, “After I read the Bible everything changed. I was so mad at the world and people, but after reading the Bible everyone else seemed nicer.”
That was when he was 18 in 1970. For 28 years that Gideon Bible sat in a box useless. I bet the Gideon who handed that Bible to Terry’s father never knew it was going to help save a troubled 18 year old kid who would someday be a pastor and help lead thousands to Christ in his ministry.
